Corsair SAAC Hosts Special Olympics Basketball Community Games

Nearly 100 UMass Dartmouth student-athletes, coaches and administrators welcomed nine teams from across the area to the Tripp Athletic Center for Special Olympics Community Basketball Games.

Members of the Corsair Student-Athlete Advisory Committee helped officiate and manage contests between squads representing the Greater New Bedford Falcons, Wareham Wild Vikings, Cushing Angels, Cushing Nets, Cushing Bulls, Whitney Wizards, Hockomock Destroyers, Bridgewater-Raynham Wolverines and the North Attleboro Big Red Machine.  Each team played a pair of contests during the event and interacted with members of the UMass Dartmouth athletic community throughout the afternoon.

“It is an honor to welcome these talented athletes to UMass Dartmouth for what is a very special day for everyone,” Corsair Director of Athletics Amanda Van Voorhis said of the event.  “Giving back to the community is such an important part of the overall student-athlete experience, and it is a privilege for all of us to be a part of this each year.”
