TIVERTON, R.I. – The University of Massachusetts Dartmouth equestrian team hosted the 2014 Intercollegiate Horse Show Association (IHSA) Region 1 Zone 1 Regional Finals at its home riding facility, Claddagh Farm, on Saturday.
Freshman Sarah Kieran (Plympton, Mass.), Kira Hallberg (Foxboro, Mass.) and sophomore Colleen Waclawik (Millis, Mass.) all advanced to the Zone 1 Championship, which will be held on Saturday, April 5, at the Mount Holyoke College Equestrian Center.
Kieran earned a pair of second place finishes in the open fences and flat class for the Corsairs. After being called back for additional testing in both classes, she finished second in the field of four in in open fences and second out of six in the flat.
In the field of 17 for the Walk Trot Canter, sophomore Waclawik took home first place, while classmate Alexandra Koury (Holden, Mass.) finished in 11th. Hallberg walked away with second in the Walk Trot after being called back for additional testing.
For the 2013-14 season, UMass Dartmouth finished in sixth place in the team standings.
