NORTH OXFORD, Mass./GALES FERRY, Conn. -- The UMass Dartmouth equestrian team resumed its 2018-19 season by posting a pair of top seven performances at both the Assumption and IHSA Community Horse Shows over the weekend.
Senior Shelby Cunningham (Mattapoisett, Mass.) and sophomore Kamori Porter-Jacques (Bellingham, Mass.) each qualified for the upcoming IHSA Regional Championships with respective second and fourth place finishes in the advanced walk trot canter and walk trot for the Corsairs hosted by Assumption at Four Winds Farm, as they will now compete in that event on March 23rd. Junior Michaela Kessel (Haverhill, Mass.) was third in the open fences and fifth in the open flat for UMass Dartmouth, which received a pair of third place performances in the novice fences and novice flat from sophomore Mikayla George (Dracut, Mass.).
Sophomore Kayleigh Sauyet (Andover, Conn.) added a third place finish in the intermediate fences at Assumption, while sophomore Elizabeth Sousa (Fall River, Mass.) was fifth in the advanced walk trot canter. Junior Lyndsey Getchell (Dartmouth, Mass.) and freshman Casey Bigelow (Princeton, Mass.) notched respective sixth place performances in the novice flat and intermediate fences for the Corsairs in Saturday’s competition.
UMass Dartmouth tied for fifth with Brown at Sunday’s IHSA Community Show at the Mystic Valley Hunt Club, as Kessel led the way with a first place finish in the open fences and a fourth place performance in the intermediate flat. George also recorded a top finish in the novice flat and added a sixth place performance in the novice fences for the Corsairs, who received fifth place finishes from Sauyet and Getchell in the novice flat along with a sixth place performance in the walk trot from senior Jessica Epstein (Worcester, Mass.).
UMass Dartmouth returns to the Mystic Valley Hunt Club on Saturday morning to compete at Rhode Island IHSA Horse Show.
