HOLLISTON, MA-The University of Massachusetts Dartmouth's equestrian team finished fourth in a field of 11 teams at their second show of the season, hosted by Tufts at the August Farm on Saturday.
Senior Shayla Fielder (Longmeadow, MA) finished first in the walk trot canter division with a finish that qualified her for regional competition. Beginning walk trot canter riders Katharine Donohue (So. Beverly, MA) and Katelyn Piela (Jr. Fall River, MA) also finished in first place in their competition. Sophomore walk trot rider Sadie Lapierre (Shrewsbury, MA), who's been riding for only two months, finished second, Senior Samantha Alfred (Attleboro, MA) was third in the intermediate division, while novice riders Sharon Amaral (Sr. East Sandwich, MA), Reisa Herrera (Sr. Foxboro, MA) and Kerin Devine (Jr. Hanover, MA) finished third, fourth, and fifth, respectively. Junior Megan Clark (Falmouth, MA) finished fifth in her jumping competition.
The competition featured teams from Zone One, Region Four. "I'm so happy with the way things are coming together," said UMass Dartmouth Head Coach Meredith Arden. "This is going to be a year to remember for our team."
The Corsairs will return to action at Boston University's show Sunday.
