HANOVER, NH-The University of Massachusetts Dartmouth's sailing team finished fifth in a strong field at the Mascoma Invitational, hosted by Dartmouth Saturday and Sunday. The UMD B team also finished fifth, with Dartmouth finishing first overall, followed by Tufts, Bates, McGill, and Colby following UMass Dartmouth.
"Our A team, consisting of (senior) captains Shawna Denn (Dracut, MA/Greater Lowell Tech HS) and Michelle Guidotti (West Hartford, CT/Conard HS) showed marked improvement over earlier attempts in the FJ boat class," said UMass Dartmouth Head Coach Jerry Jennings. "In the final race after two days of competition, UMD bested both Bates and McGill by less than a foot at the finish, in the 10th race for the crews."
"In the B division, UMD was led by (junior) Maggie McDonald (Douglas, MA/Douglas HS) and (freshman) Kelsey Martins (New Bedford, MA/New Bedford HS)," Jennings added. "The B group also saw the first time efforts of (sophomore) Baily Rice (Southampton, MA/Hampshire Regional HS), (sophomore) Emma Linden (Beverly, MA/Beverly HS), (sophomore) Emily Doiron (Arlington, MA/Arlington HS) and (sophomore) Julia Trudel (Lowell, MA/Lowell HS)."HS)
The Corsairs will return to action at MIT November 3rd.
