BUZZARDS BAY, Mass. -- The University of Massachusetts Dartmouth sailing team placed 13th among 15 teams this afternoon at the Commonwealth Invitational, hosted by Massachusetts Maritime Academy.
"We were really pleased after an intense week of practice, to see our freshmen--Courtney Grippin, Angelica Brewer, and Hannah Baker--step up in their first competition," said Head Coach Jerry Jennings. "Kelsey DeLosh has significantly improved as a skipper, while Sophomore Kelsey Martins was a steadying influence, winning two starts and showing her best effort to date. The Corsairs finished all 20 races, posting a couple of top-10 finals in the large fleet. Junior Emily Doiron had her best effort in guiding her craft over the course on both days as well".
Tufts University captured the team championship with 70 total points, while Maine Maritime was 13 points off the Jumbos pace.
UMass Dartmouth will return to action on October 19, when the Corsairs travel to the Great Herring Pond Open at Massachusetts Maritime.
