BOSTON – The University of Massachusetts Dartmouth sailing squad continued the fall season over the weekend, competing on the Charles River at Boston College's Central Series.
How it Happened
The weekend began with a postponement due to a lack of wind but eventually the pressure built on the point that racing was possible. The limited breeze made for a challenging day. Team captains Isabel Rombult (Boxford, Mass.) and Alix Blair (Gloucester, Mass.) sailed in the A division with Shannon McKeown (Franklin, Mass.) and Melanie Muzyka (Pembroke, Mass.) in the B division.
As the day progressed, the B team was able to settle into a rhythm and spent the afternoon in the middle of the fleet, while Rombult sustained an injury but chose to continue racing through the end of the day.
On Sunday, the Corsairs were underhanded as Rombult was unable to compete. This bumped McKeown and Muzyka into the A division. After yet another slight postponement, the sea breeze picked up enough for some slow moving races. The Corsairs were able to stay in the mix for the entire day, finishing each race with several boats behind them, however with only one boat scoring for the day, it was not possible to avoid a last place finish over all.
UMass Dartmouth closes out the fall season at the Dark of Night Regatta on Thursday, Nov. 9, hosted by Tufts at Mystic Lake.
