Coach Jerry Jennings began his tenure at UMass Dartmouth (then Southeastern Massachusetts University) as Head Coach of Diving in 1986, and will be coaching his third sport and starting up a sport for the second time when be bgan his tenure as UMass Dartmuouth's first Head Sailing Coach in Spring of 2012.

Jennings has made a smooth transition to his new sport. "(Director of Athletics) Ian Day approached me last year about considering heading up a new program for women in intercollegiate sailing, and I agreed to do so enthusiastically," said Jennings at the time of his appointment.

Jennings brings a unique perspective to the sport, having sailed extensively on both U.S. coasts, the Caribbean, Hawaii and Venezuela during the past 30 years. Prior to taking over the sailing program, Jennings was previously known for his coaching accomplishments in swimming and diving and women’s lacrosse, covering a long and successful career coaching in these sports.

Among his accomplishments are the following:

- Member of the University of Maryland’s three-time Atlantic Coact Conference championship teams in Swimming and Diving

- Head Coach, Diving – University of Maryland and the University of West Virginia

- Head Coach Swimming and Diving at Washington and Jefferson College,

- Head Coach Swimming and Diving at UMass Dartmouth

- Meet Director, two NCAA Swimming and Diving Championships

- NCAA National Collegiate Diving Coach of the Year

- Three NCAA Championships in Diving at two collegiate institutions

- Six-time New England Collegiate Diving Coach of the Year, with nine New England
Champions

- Coached over 20 All American Swimmers, and 13 All American Divers at the collegiate level

- Selected to three different Hall of Fame Memberships in Swimming and Diving  as an athlete and coach

- Started intercollegiate program in women’s lacrosse at UMass Dartmouth

- Coached one All American, three Little East Conference Rookies of the Year, two LEC Offensive Players of the Year and one Defensive Player of the Year in lacrosse

- Member of Women’s Lacrosse NCAA Regional Committee for New England.

Coach Jennings has the rare distinction of coaching NCAA champions at two institutions, as well as coaching All-American student-athletes in three different sports. He holds degrees from the University of Maryland and West Virginia University.
