Baseball Picked Eighth by LEC Coaches
NORTH DARTMOUTH, MA - The University of Massachusetts Dartmouth's baseball team has been picked to finish in eighth place in the Little East Conference this spring.
The Corsairs, who finished eighth in the LEC last season, received 12 points in the conference's annual pre-season coaches' poll. Southern Maine, which finished first last year, was picked to repeat, with four first-place votes and 58 points. Eastern Connecticut State and Keene State were picked to tie for second. Each team received 53 points, with the Warriors getting two first place votes and the Owls receiving one. Rhode Island College was picked fourth with 42 points.
UMass Boston was picked to finish fifth with 31 points, Plymouth State was picked sixth with 21 points, and Western Connecticut State was picked seventh with 18 points.
"We deserve the ranking we received, based on last year's performance," said UMass Dartmouth Head Coach Bob Prince. " I don't, however, put any credence into preseason rankings, our games are played on a field , not on paper. Our focus is on our team, not the perception of our team by other coaches."
The Corsairs will open their 2013 season Friday, March 15th against Ripon in Winter Haven, FL.
