Corsairs Announce 2014 Russmatt Baseball Schedule

NORTH DARTMOUTH, Mass. – University of Massachusetts Dartmouth Head Coach Bob Prince announced his 2014 Russmatt Baseball Central Florida Invitational schedule this afternoon. The Corsairs will play a total of 10 games between March 14 and March 23.

UMass Dartmouth will face a highly competitive schedule during its Spring Break trip, squaring off against opponents with a combined .589 winning percentage from 2013. The Corsairs will play five 2013 NCAA Division III tournament participants in Amherst College, Daniel Webster College, Ramapo College (N.J.), Saint Joseph College (Maine), and Western New England University. The Monks and Golden Bears are currently receiving votes in the 2014 D3Baseball.com Division III Preseason Poll.

"Our schedule puts an added emphasis on preseason preparation and competitiveness," Prince said. "We are approaching our first 10 games as if we were in a Regional Tournament. This will be an early mental and physical test for our program."

UMass Dartmouth will feature a challenging schedule right out of the gates, facing three NCAA teams on consecutive days. The Corsairs will play a single, nine-inning game against three reigning conference champions in Saint Joseph (March 14), Daniel Webster (March 15), and Western New England (March 16). UMD will battle Springfield on Saint Patrick's Day followed by New Jersey Athletic Conference member Ramapo on March 18. Following a day off, UMass Dartmouth will square off against FDU-Florham before a seven-inning, doubleheader with Amherst College on Mar. 21. The local nine will wrap up their trip with single games against Rochester Institute of Technology (March 22) and Trinity College (March 23).
