LAKE MYRTLE, Fla. – Oswego State University fired off five runs in the top half of the ninth to capture a, 14-9, victory over the University of Massachusetts Dartmouth baseball team early Saturday morning at Lake Myrtle Field #1.
Center fielder Scott Buniak went 4-for-6 from the plate, scored four runs and swiped five bases to lead the Lakers (9-4). Off the bench, John Rauseo went 2-for-2 in the designated hitter slot with a triple and solo round tripper to go with three runs batted in, while short stop Tyler Baker reached base three times and knocked in three runs.
For the Corsairs (3-6), junior Cory DeMedeiros (Fall River, Mass.) went 3-for-4 from the dish with a solo homerun and three RBI's, while classmate Ryan Medeiros (Acushnet, Mass.) recorded three hits and crossed the plate twice. Sophomore Matt Russell (Townsend, Mass.) added two hits, a run and a run batted in.
In the top of the ninth with the score tied at nine all, Baker singled to right field to drive in the eventual game-winning run. Rauseo gave Oswego a three run cushion when he knocked home a pair of runs with triple. Left fielder Dan Saccocio pushed Rauseo home with a fielder's choice bunt and Buniak capped the offensive onslaught with an RBI single to right center.
On the hill, Josh Martin threw two innings of relief, allowing one earned and three hits to capture his second win of the season for the Lakers. Starting pitcher Ryan Brinkman surrendered one earned run and scattered six hits in six innings.
UMass Dartmouth will play its second game of the day at 12:30 p.m. against Rochester Institute of Technology.
