NORTH DARTMOUTH, Mass. – University of Massachusetts Dartmouth junior Nick Fuller (Acushnet, Mass. / New Bedford) was recently named the Future's Collegiate Baseball League (FCBL) Pitcher of the Week after leading the Martha's Vineyard Sharks to a 7-1 victory over the Worcester Bravehearts.
In his only start of the week, Fuller faced two batters above the minimum in his longest outing of the season. The southpaw limited Worcester to just a single and a walk, while striking out seven hitters over eight strong frames. Fuller retired the Bravehearts in order five times, including sitting down the final 11 batters he faced.
Fuller joined the Sharks after a two-month stint with the Wareham Gatemen of the prestigious Cape Cod Baseball League. A starter in four of his six appearances, the Corsairs ace is sporting a 3-0 record with a 2.73 earned run average in 29.2 innings of work. He has limited the opposition to 22 total hits and four walks, while registering 38 strikeouts. Despite only making six appearances, Fuller is ranked 15th in the league in strikeouts. He has reached double digits in strikeouts twice this season, including a season-high 13 punch outs last night against the Pittsfield Suns.
Fuller has been nearly untouchable over his past three outings to win consecutive decisions for the division-leading Sharks. He has dominated his opponent's during the past 17 innings, allowing a combined six hits and two walks without surrendering an earned run. Fuller has fanned 22 batters to raise his seasonal strikeout to walks ratio to 9.5.
Martha's Vineyard will return to action tonight at 6:35 p.m., when the Sharks visit the second-place Brockton Rox at Campanelli Stadium. Martha's Vineyard currently holds a half-game lead with four contests remaining in the regular-season.
