How it Happened
The Corsairs saw multiple-hit performances from sophomore Erick Ramirez (Boston, Mass.) and senior Taylor Cacciola (West Greenwich, R.I.), while junior Kenny Michael (Norwood, Mass.) launched his second homer of the tournament for a team-high two RBIs.
For the Beacons, Chris Fowler (Barnstable, Mass.) dropped two hits in three at-bats for a pair of RBIs and three runs scored. Nick Herzog (Riverhead, N.Y.) cleared the bases for a game-high three RBIs with his lone hit, a triple.
UMass Boston sent across three runs in the first after sitting the Corsairs in order. Fowler lifted a triple to the right field wall to round a pair of baserunners, before scoring himself on a bunt by Herzog.
In the third, the Corsairs cut in with a single run on an RBI double off the bat of Ramirez, giving way for Michael to blast a no-doubt two-run homer in the fourth and knot the score at three.
The tie was short-lived, as another Beacon run scored on a squeeze off the bat of Josh Lopez (New Haven, Conn.), with Anthony Searles (Shelton, Conn.) sneaking under the flip of pitcher Dylan Collett (Albany, N.Y.) with one out in the fourth. UMass Dartmouth threatened with a pair of singles to lead off the fifth, but the Beacons negated the chance by catching both runners on the same play.
UMass Boston Sal Frosceno (Derby, Conn.) drove an RBI single with no outs in the sixth, and immediately advanced home on Charlie Huegi's (Sandy Hook, Conn.) sacrifice fly in the next at-bat.
In the seventh, the Beacons loaded the bases before a passed ball made the margin 7-3, and Herzog cleared the bags for a three-RBI double in the bottom of the eighth. UMass Dartmouth awoke to start the ninth on a leadoff triple by Brandon Polignone (Peabody, Mass.), who completed his trip on Josh O'Neill's (Halifax, Mass.) sacrifice fly before the game was halted due to darkness. The Beacons secured the final two outs when play resumed on Saturday morning.
Collett went 5.1 innings in the start for UMass Dartmouth, fanning five with five of his six runs earned. For the Beacons, Fernando Burgos (Hyde Park, Mass.) tossed the opening six frames, yielding just three runs on seven hits with five strikeouts.
