Michael Becomes Fourth Corsair Named to D3Baseball.com Team of the Week

DARTMOUTH, Mass. – After picking up the Little East Conference (LEC) Player of the Week Award yesterday, senior outfielder Kenny Michael (Norwood, Mass.) was named to the D3Baseball.com Team of the Week this morning after posting a slash line of .500/.600/1.000 as part of a 3-1 record for the Corsairs. The right-handed slugger propelled the UMass Dartmouth offense to key wins over Wheaton (Mass.), Tufts, and Keene State to build momentum heading into the LEC tournament.

Michael becomes the fourth Corsair to receive a nod by the national publication, joining pitchers Robbie Carrillo (Melrose, Mass.), Zack Reid (Dighton, Mass.), and Matt Cronin (Framingham, Mass.). The outfielder is the first position player to be named to the Team of the Week, earning the award in the final week of the 2018 campaign.

The doubles machine drilled an RBI two-bagger against the Lyons to start the fifth inning rally against Wheaton (Mass.), pioneering the Corsair comeback to overcome the three-run deficit and ultimately take the 5-4 decision on the road in Norton.

Despite the Blue and Gold falling down by four runs on multiple occasions the next day against Tufts, Michael also played a part in the Corsairs' 13-10 win as he drilled his first homer of the season – of the two-run variety – to pace his three-hit, five-RBI career-best performance.

He would not stop there, driving in four more runs of game one of the doubleheader against Keene State. UMass Dartmouth batted around several times in the nightcap, as Michael made six plate appearances that encompassed three walks, a hit, and a run scored in the squad's big 9-2 win over the Owls.

In 35 games played this season, the outfielder leads the team in doubles (15) and walks (24). The Corsairs complete the 2018 campaign with a 23-13 record to enter the LEC Tournament as the #6 seed and will square off at the top-seeded No. 5 UMass Boston on Wednesday, May 9 at 11 a.m. Live video and statistics coverage will be available via littleeast.tv.
