After enjoying a dominant spring season on the mound that was capped with a pair of All-America honors, UMass Dartmouth junior righthander Matt Cronin has signed a 10-day contract with the Harwich Mariners of the prestigious Cape Cod Baseball League.
A native of Framingham, Mass. and a graduate of Framingham High School, Cronin is set to join Harwich on Friday evening as the Mariners entertain the Falmouth Commodores at Whitehouse Field. The CCBL regular season slate concludes on August 2nd.
Cronin recorded one of the most dominant performances in Corsair history under Head Coach Bob Prince this past spring, as he posted a 6-1 mark with an 0.99 earned run average (second best in Division III play nationally) and became the 13th All-America honoree in program history. Matt was tabbed as New England Pitcher of the Year by the ABCA, D3Baseball.com and NEIBA after garnering the same accolade from the Little East Conference, and he ranked fourth in hits allowed per game (4.95) and 11th in WHIP (0.91) nationally. Overall, Cronin allowed just 35 hits and recorded 67 strikeouts in 63.2 innings of work (9.47 per nine innings).
UMass Dartmouth posted 25 overall victories for the third time in four seasons, including a pair of triumphs in the Little East tournament, in 2018.
