Baseball Falls To Framingham State, 9-4
March 30, 2011
NORTH DARTMOUTH, MA-Visiting Framingham State scored six runs in the top of the seventh and went on to defeat the University of Massachusetts Dartmouth's baseball team, 9-4, in a non-conference game at the UMass Dartmouth Athletic Complex Wednesday afternoon.
The Rams got a two-run double from junior shortstop Chris Blydell (Lynn, MA/Swampscott HS) and run-scoring singles from senior designated hitter Corey Ketterer (Plymouth, MA/Plymouth North HS) and junior right fielder Pedro Acevedo (New Britain, CT/New Britain HS) and took advantage of two errors to break a 3-3 tie and take the lead for good.
The Corsairs had taken a 1-0 lead on senior catcher Zac Talis' (Lynnfield, MA/Lynnfield HS) RBI single in the bottom of the third inning, and added two more runs in the fourth on a run-scoring single by sophomore left fielder Cory Albanese (Weymouth, MA/Weymouth HS) and a sacrifice fly by senior shortstop Ryan McDermott (Pembroke, MA/Pembroke HS). The Rams tied it on a fielder's choice in the fifth and an RBI single by senior third baseman Danny Chaisson (Watertown, MA/Watertown HS) in the sixth. Talis doubled home UMD's final run in the seventh.
"(Starter) Chris Contre (Sr. East Bridgewater, MA/East Bridgewater HS) pitched well, but (sophomore) Aaron Brunette (North Andover, MA/North Andover HS) got rocked, and we didn't hit the ball as well as we should have," said UMass Dartmouth Head Coach Bob Curran. "We made some errors, and we didn't make the plays we needed to make. A couple of their innings should have been over."
Junior Jimmy Borden (Lexington, MA/Lexington HS) earned the win in relief for FSU, while Brunette took the loss.
The Corsairs fell to 6-7 with the defeat, while the Rams improved to 8-7 with the victory. UMass Dartmouth will return to action when they host UMass Boston in a doubleheader Saturday. FSU will visit Bridgewater State Saturday.
