NORTH DARTMOUTH, MA-A member of the University of Massachusetts Dartmouth's baseball team has returned to play collegiate summer baseball at one of the highest levels.
Junior outfielder Jeff Macchi (Franklin, MA/Franklin HS), who signed a short-term agreement with the New Bedford Bay Sox and played at the start of the 2009 New England Collegiate Baseball League. Season, has returned to the team for rest of the year.
Macchi batted .182 with three RBIs in seven games at the start of the year for the Bay Sox, while stealing two bases in three attempts and fielding flawlessly. He hit .375 with 11 doubles, three triples and two home runs for the Corsairs during the 2009 season, his third with UMass Dartmouth and his second as the regular center fielder. Macchi joined the baseball team after starting all 31 games at guard for the UMass Dartmouth basketball team this season, for which he averaged 11.5 points, 4.9 rebounds, and 2.71 steals per game, and was named to the Little East Conference All-Defensive Team.
