UMass Dartmouth senior forward Arinze Obiora was named as the Little East Conference Men’s Basketball Player of the Week on Monday afternoon for his efforts in three Corsair contests last week.
A resident of Hyde Park, Mass. and a graduate of Brookline High School, Obiora averaged 24 points and 14 rebounds in a 2-1 week for the Corsairs, as he earned Most Valuable Player honors at the 21st Annual Lafrance Hospitality Tournament over the weekend at the Tripp Athletic Center. Arinze averaged 23 points and 11 boards in wins over Clark (81-64) and Mitchell (89-72) during the tournament, and he began the week by scoring 26 points and grabbing a career-best 20 caroms in an 87-85 setback to Salem State.
In four contests to date, Obiora is averaging 20.8 points per game (second best in the conference) and leads the league in rebounding at 13.3 boards per outing. Head Coach Brian Baptiste’s squad returns to action on Sunday, November 25th when UMass Dartmouth heads to Bristol, R.I. to square off with Roger Williams in a non-league clash that tips-off at 5:00 pm EST.
