NORTH DARTMOUTH, MA-For the first time this season, a member of the University of Massachusetts Dartmouth's men's basketball team has been honored by the Little East Conference.
Junior forward Brandon Shelton (Cambridge, MA/Cambridge Rindge & Latin HS/UMass Lowell) has been named Little East Conference Men's Basketball Player of the Week. It's the second year in a row that Shelton has been so honored.
Shelton led the Corsairs by averaging 20.7 points and 7.7 rebounds per game in three games last week. He made 25 of 51 shots from the field for 52 per cent, scored a season high 28 points in last Thursday's victory against Salem State, and scored 23 points and grabbed 10 rebounds for a double double in Saturday's victory against Keene State.
"Brandon is playing some pretty good basketball right now, and he's well-deserving of the award," said UMass Dartmouth Head Coach Brian Baptiste. "He has come back from his injury and has been progressing, getting better and better. It's great to see him get Player of the Week."
The Corsairs are 10-5 overall, 3-2 in the LEC. They will return to action when they visit UMass Boston in the first game of a Little East Conference doubleheader Tuesday evening.
