NORTH DARTMOUTH, MA-For the fourth time this season, a member of the University of Massachusetts Dartmouth's men's basketball team has been honored by the Little East Conference.
Junior forward Matt Walker (Brockton, MA/Brockton HS) has been named Little East Conference Men's Basketball Player of the Week. Walker is the third UMass Dartmouth player to be so honored this season, joining junior forward Brandon Shelton (Cambridge, MA/Cambridge Rindge & Latin HS/UMass Lowell) and sophomore forward Brandon Stephens (Dorchester, MA/Newton North HS).
Walker averaged 23 points per game in two games last week, making 19 of 28 shots from the field for 67.9 per cent and six of 10 shots from three-point range for 60 per cent. He scored 24 points in 20 minutes against UMass Boston last Tuesday night, and then led the Corsairs with 22 points against Plymouth State Saturday in the final game of the regular season.
"Matt has been doing a great job for us this year, playing well down the stretch, scoring points both inside and outside, and doing a great job passing the ball and rebounding," said UMass Dartmouth Head Coach Brian Baptiste. "He has made an outstanding contribution to our team this year."
The Corsairs will take a 22-3 record into their Little East Conference playoff game against UMass Boston Tuesday evening.
