NORTH DARTMOUTH, MA-With the regular season completed, the University of Massachusetts Dartmouth's men's basketball team now turns its attention to the playoffs. The Corsairs will open post-season action when they host UMass Boston in a Little East Conference quarter-final playoff game at the Tripp Athletic Center at 7:00 Tuesday evening.
UMass Dartmouth enters the playoffs as the second-seeded team, while the Beacons are seeded seventh and come into the game with a 4-21 overall record. The Corsairs won both regular season meetings, 73-44 at the Clark Athletic Center January 27th, and 108-68 at home a week ago.
Despite his team's regular season sweep, UMass Dartmouth Head Coach Brian Baptiste knows that his team must put those games aside Tuesday evening.
"It's a new season, and when it's one and done, and you're playing for everything, you have to put your best foot forward and see where the chips fall," said Baptiste. "I think we're well-prepared for this, we have a veteran team, and they've been through this before. I thought we didn't finish strong last year, and we've been concentrating this year to make sure we do finish strong. Last year's results are still on our minds, to give our players a little extra incentive to perform better."
Baptiste knows that his team must be sharp in their opener. "In a one-game situation, anything can happen," said Baptiste. "UMass Boston has the potential to beat anyone, and we have to go out and play the best game we can."
The winner of Tuesday night's game will advance to the Little East Conference Final Four at the home site of the highest remaining team.
