NORTH DARTMOUTH, MA-Two members of the University of Massachusetts Dartmouth's men's basketball team have earned post-season Little East Conference honors.
Senior centers Lance Greene (Dorchester, MA/Charlestown HS/UMass Lowell), was named first team All-Conference, was chosen for the All-Defensive Team, and was named LEC Defensive Player of the Year. Freshman forward Ale Rodrigues (Fall River, MA/Durfee HS) was named to the All-Rookie Team.
Greene led the Corsairs in rebounding, averaging 17.7 points and 10.5 rebounds per game. He also led the Corsairs in steals (41) and blocked shots (37) and attempted 242 free throws, nearly half of the team total. He made 50.7 per cent of his shots from the field, and had 16 double doubles. Greene was second in the Little East in scoring, led the league in rebounding, and was sixth in steals and third in blocked shots.
"Lance did an outstanding job for our basketball team this year," said UMass Dartmouth Head Coach Brian Baptiste. "His individual stats were simply amazing, and if you compare his numbers to the top players in our conference, he was one of the top performers. Lance was the best defensive player in the conference; he altered many shots besides the ones he blocked."
Rodrigues started nine of the 24 game he appeared in, moving into the starting lineup after an injury to sophomore forward Eleazar Clayton (Boston, MA/East Boston HS/Monroe CC). He averaged 7.0 points and 4.5 rebounds per game,
"Alex did an outstanding job as a freshman," said Baptiste. "When he moved into the starting lineup, his minutes increased dramatically, and his performance improved dramatically. For a freshman, he did an outstanding job, and was a major contributor to our team this season."
The Corsairs finished the season at 13-13, advancing to the first round of the Little East Conference post-season tournament.
