Oct. 28, 2009

BEAVERTON, OR-Senior forward Brandon Shelton (Cambridge, MA/Cambridge Rindge & Latin HS/UMass Lowell) of the University of Massachusetts Dartmouth men's basketball team has earned a pre-season honor.

Shelton was named a pre-season All-American by the Division III News. He's the second UMass Dartmouth player to earn pre-season national honors. Senior forward Chris Lapriore (Grafton, MA/Holy Name HS) was named a pre-season All-American by Street and Smith's Magazine prior to the 2005-06 season.

Shelton averaged 17.7 points and 6.2 rebounds per game last season, leading the Corsairs in both categories, and earned first team All-Little East Conference honors.

"Because of his success last year, when he was in contention for Player of the Year, I'm sure he's been talked about in the pre-season," said UMass Dartmouth Head Coach Brian Baptiste. "He had a very impressive year for us last year, and we are expecting some big things from him this season. Hopefully, he improves on what he did last year, and has a great season."

The Corsairs went 27-4 last season, winning the LEC post-season tournament and advancing to the semi-finals of the NCAA Sectional Championships. UMass Dartmouth will begin their season when they host Johnson & Wales November 17th.
