WESTFIELD, MA-The University of Massachusetts Dartmouth's football team has been picked to finish in a tie for eighth place in the initial Massachusetts Collegiate Athletic Conference pre-season poll.
The Corsairs received 20 votes in the poll and were tied with Fitchburg State
Framingham State, which won the New England Football Conference championship last fall, was picked to finish first with seven of the nine first place votes and 77 points. Bridgewater State was picked second with 73 points and Massachusetts Maritime third with 62 points, and each received one first place vote.
Worcester State was picked fourth with 46 points; Westfield State received 45 points, and Western Connecticut State was picked sixth with 37 points. Plymouth State was picked seventh with 25 points, just ahead of the Corsairs and Falcons.
"This year Framingham is the team to beat in the MASCAC," said UMass Dartmouth Head Coach Mark Robichaud. "Our team is young, but I can't wait to see how all of our kids react to playing in this conference."
Each team will play each of the other MASCAC teams during the regular season. The Corsairs open their regular season when they host Mount Ida on September 6th, and their first MASCAC game is at Westfield State on September 21st.
