NORTH DARTMOUTH, Mass. -- Freshman DeVon Fuller (Washington, DC) was named the Massachusetts State Collegiate Athletic Conference (MASCAC) Defensive Player of the Week and the Rookie of the Week for his performance in the University of Massachusetts Dartmouth's 34-33 victory over Worcester State on Saturday.
Fuller recorded four interceptions--one pick shy of the NCAA Division III record--and 106 return yards to lead the Corsair defense. The rookie from Washington, DC provided UMass Dartmouth with its first lead of the contest late in the third quarter, when Fuller picked off Lancer quarterback Pat Viencek inside the UMD five-yard line and raced 94 yards down the left sideline for his first collegiate touchdown. He also stalled three Worcester State drives deep inside Corsair territory, picking off passes at the UMass Dartmouth 1, 14, and 24, respectively. Fuller also registered four tackles, including three solo stops.
Fuller currently sits atop the MASCAC leaderboard in interceptions (5) and return yards (144), while also ranking among the leaders in pass breakups (18th, 3). He has produced 16 total tackles, including 11 solo stops.
Sophomore quarterback Cullen Hanna (Richmondville, N.Y.) was also selected to the latest edition of the MASCAC Honor Roll. Hanna guided a Corsair offense that accounted for 471 yards, including 298 threw the air. He was 18-for-40 with 275 yards and two touchdowns. Hanna connected with sophomore Abiola Aborishade (Attleboro, Mass.) for a 69-yard TD, while also hooking up with junior Adam Ledoux (Somerset, Mass.) for a 17-yard strike. He also gained 18 yards on the ground, including a 11-yard scamper.
UMass Dartmouth (3-3, 3-2 MASCAC) will return to action at 12 p.m. on Oct. 26, when the Corsairs travel to Massachusetts Maritime Academy (3-3, 1-3).
