FRAMINGHAM, Mass. -- Senior Quron Wright (Worcester, Mass.) rushed for 137 yards and a touchdown to lead Framingham State to a 44-13 Massachusetts State Collegiate Athletic Conference football victory over UMass Dartmouth Friday evening at Bowditch Field.
The host Rams (6-2, 5-1 MASCAC) jumped out to an early edge on senior Napoleon Miller’s (Dorchester, Mass.) 17-yard run on the game’s opening drive, but the visiting Corsairs (4-4, 3-3 MASCAC) answered on their first possession when sophomore quarterback Stephen Gacioch (Tiverton, R.I.) connected with fellow sophomore DJ Machado (Swansea, Mass.) on a 70-yard scoring strike to slice their deficit to one at 7-6. Framingham State took the lead for good on its next possession when senior Sebastein Robert (Cambridge, Mass.) scampered in from 19 yards out, and Wright extended that margin to 21-6 just 4:01 into the second stanza with a 50-yard run up the middle.
The Rams tacked on nine points in the final 4:24 of the half, as a blocked punt went through the end zone for a safety and was followed by the first of two touchdown runs on the night from four yards out by junior Rufus Rushins (Lynn, Mass.), who added a one-yard plunge midway through the third quarter. Sophomore Shaquille Joseph (Somerville, Mass.) accounted for Framingham State’s final score of the night when he hauled in a 58-yard touchdown pass from junior quarterback Adam Wojenski (Stratford, Conn.) with 3:40 remaining in the third stanza, and UMass Dartmouth accounted for the final margin with 5:06 to play in the contest on sophomore Jacob Francis’s (Middletown, R.I.) 25-yard scoring run.
Wojenski amassed 250 yards of total offense (including 172 through the air) as part of 500 yards of total offense in the win for Framingham State, which rushed for 325 yards on 48 carries. Francis finished with 97 of UMass Dartmouth’s 166 yards on the ground, as Gacioch threw for 168 yards (including four catches for 110 yards by Machado) as part of 392 yards of total offense.
Junior Jack Sullivan (Dartmouth, Mass.) notched nine total tackles that featured a sack and three stops for losses of 15 yards for the Rams, who received six stops from freshman Cully Curran (Arlington, Mass.) and an interception from senior Kenneth Bartolo (Malden, Mass.). Senior Samuel Ejiasi (Forney, Tex.) registered eight total tackles (including five solo and a sack) in the setback for the Corsairs, who received six total stops each from senior Jonathan Cistrunk (Alpharetta, Ga.), junior Tony Slaughter (Springfield, Mass.) and sophomores Jacob Burkhead (Plymouth, Mass.) and Sam Krajewski (Taunton, Mass.).
