Aaron Russo
Position: | Assistant Coach |
Moving over from the offensive side of the
ball, Russo will coach the safeties this season. A native of
Johnston, RI, Russo played four years for the Corsairs as a running
back. He recently earned a master's degree in business
administration from UMass Dartmouth. Russo scored four touchdowns
in each of his final two seasons, carrying 84 times for 373 yards
and making nine receptions for 84 yards as a senior, scoring seven
times on the ground and twice through the air. As a junior, he
ranked third with 280 yards rushing, averaging 4.7 yards per carry
and scoring twice. He also caught 10 passes for 99 yards and a pair
of scores. In four seasons, he rushed for 849 yards and 10
touchdowns, while catching 20 passes for 192 yards and four scores.
After earning his bachelor's degree in accounting in 2009, Russo
entered graduate school at the University of Rhode Island. "Coach
(Robichaud) contacted me and said that the GA position was open
here," said Russo. "Instead of paying for graduate school, I came
here and got right on board." He went on to finish his graduate
degree at UMD. Russo was excited to join the coaching staff. "It's
great to be back," said Russo. "I still have a couple of friends on
the team, and it's nice to see how they've progressed. I missed
coaching, and I am excited to be involved again."
