Oct. 31, 2011

NORTH DARTMOUTH, MA-UMass Dartmouth senior linebacker John Cordasco (Rockaway, NJ, /Morris Knolls HS) has been honored by the New England Football Conference.

Cordasco has been honored as the NEFC's Defensive Player of the Week.

Cordasco led UMass Dartmouth in their 33-7 victory at Curry Saturday, making nine tackles, all of them solo stops. He forced a fumble and returned it for a touchdown, which was his fourth defensive score of the season. He also intercepted a pass, leading a Corsair effort that resulted in 10 Curry turnovers and UMD's first victory over the Colonels in seven years.

"John had another outstanding game this week against Curry," said UMass Dartmouth Head Coach Mark Robichaud. "He has had arguably one of the best defensive seasons in UMass Dartmouth history. Through nine games he has scored four defensive touchdowns, and he has scored a TD in four of the last five games we have played. He is a premier player at the Division III level, and he is also an outstanding student and young man."

The Corsairs will finish their regular season Saturday when they host Western New England.
