BREWSTER, MA-The University of Massachusetts Dartmouth's men's golf team posted a team score of 317 and a two-day total of 634 and finished 16th at the New England Intercollegiate Golf Association Championships, played at the par-72 Captain's Course Tuesday. UMass Dartmouth played the Starboard Course, one of two courses used for the tournament.
The Corsairs were ninth of 22 NCAA Division III teams entered. Bentley finished first with a score of 606, while Salem State led Division III teams with a score of 617, tying for fifth place.
For the Corsairs, senior George Gillmore (Cotuit, MA/ Barnstable HS/Fairfield) led the way with a 77 and finished with a 36-hole score of 161, tying for 82nd place. Junior Matt Connolly (Lynnfield, MA/Lynnfield HS) came in at 78 for a total of 157 and tied for 48th, senior Nick Jagoe (Westport, MA/Westport HS) and sophomore Brendan Kelleher (Hopedale, MA/Hopedale HS) each shot an 81, with Jagoe finishing at 160 and tying for 78th, and Kelleher finishing at 161 and tying for 82nd, and junior Kevin Rewinski (West Springfield, MA/West Springfield HS) came in at 83 for a total of 162 and tied for 94th.
"We missed a lot of greens, and a lot of putts, and it's tough to score low when you do that," said UMass Dartmouth Head Coach Joel Baptista. "I'll give the guys an A for effort for hanging in there, working hard and grinding it out, but we need to execute better, and limit our mistakes."
The Corsairs will return to action at the Johnson & Wales Match Play Championship this weekend.
