Golf Ties for Fourth at Western New England

SPRINGFIELD, MA-The University of Massachusetts Dartmouth's men's golf team shot a team score of 320  and tied for fourth at the  11-team Western New England Invitational at the par-72 Veterans Golf Course Thursday.

The Corsairs tied the Western New England White team. Endicott finished first at 314, followed by Salem State at 316 and Nichols at 319. Trailing the Corsairs were Springfield at 325, Elms at 329, Westfield State at 332, the Western New England Blue team and Babson at 335, and Wesleyan at 364.

Junior Matt Connolly (Lynnfield, MA/Lynnfield HS) led the Corsairs with a 77, junior Kevin Rewinski (West Springfield, MA/West Springfield HS) came in at 80, senior Nick Jagoe (Westport, MA/Westport HS) shot an 82, senior George Gillmore (Cotuit, MA/Barnstable HS/Fairfield) shot an 81, and sophomore Brendan Kelleher (Hopedale, MA/Hopedale HS) shot an 84.

"It's encouraging because it was our best team total of the year, but we still left shots out on the course," said UMass Dartmouth Head Coach Joel Baptista. "We need to get better play, and get into the 70s, and that's what we'll be looking for this weekend. We had a nice effort from Matt Connolly with a 77, but when you leave shots out on the golf course, it makes a difference."

The Corsairs will return to action at the Johnson & Wales Invitational this weekend.
