MIDDLEBURY, VT-The University of Massachusetts Dartmouth's golf team finished 15th in a 24-team field as action ended Sunday at their season-opening tournament, the Duke Nelson Invitational at Middlebury's par-71 Ralph Myhre Golf Course.
The Corsairs shot a team score of 322 Sunday for a two-day total of 647. Rensselaer was first with a score of 607.
For UMD, junior Brandon Oldham (Mattapoisett, MA/Old Rochester Regional HS) shot a 77 Sunday for a 36-hole total of 157. Senior Matt Connolly (Lynnfield, MA/Lynnfield HS) shot a 78 for a two-day total of 156, junior Ryan Benton (Whitman, MA/Whitman-Hanson HS) shot an 83 for 165, junior Brandon Kelleher (Hopedale, MA/Hopedale HS) shot an 85 for 170, and junior Pete Danko (Norton, MA/Norton HS/Massachusetts) came in at 87 for 171.
"We had hoped to get off to a better start," said UMass Dartmouth Head Coach Joel Baptista. "Fortunately, we have a couple of weeks before we get back into competition, because there are a lot of things we need to work on. It was good to see Matt Connolly post a couple of solid rounds."
The Corsairs will return to action at the Southern Maine Fall Classic October 7th and 8th.
