SUTTON, MA-The University of Massachusetts Dartmouth's men's golf team shot a team score of 332 for a two-day total of 655 and finished third Sunday at the two-day Great Northeast Athletic Conference Championships, hosted by Anna Maria at the Blackstone National Golf Course.
Rhode Island College finished first at 323-639, earning the GNAC's automatic bid to the NCAA Division III Championships. Southern Maine was next at 324-647, Johnson & Wales was fourth at 333-658, Suffolk was fifth at 329-659, St. Joseph's (Maine) sixth at 337-680, Emmanuel seventh at 350-702, and Worcester State eighth at 364-725.
For UMass Dartmouth, senior Kevin Rewinski (Springfield, MA/Springfield HS) shot a 78 for a two-day total of 162, and junior Brandon Oldham (Mattapoisett, MA/Old Rochester Regional HS) scored 85-162 and both tied for sixth. Junior Brandon Kelleher (Hopedale, MA/Hopedale HS) shot 84-164 and tied for 15th, senior George Gillmore (Cotuit, MA/Barnstable HS/Fairfield) shot 88 for 170 and tied for 24th, and senior Matt Connolly (Lynnfield, MA/Lynnfield HS) shot an 85 for 173 and tied for 29th.
"We're disappointed," said UMass Dartmouth Head Coach Joel Baptista. "We thought we were in a good position going into today's round, but we just didn't execute. We had an opportunity, but we just didn't capitalize. The Corsairs will return to action next weekend at the New England Intercollegiate Golf Association Championships.
