SUTTON, MA-The University of Massachusetts Dartmouth's men's golf team shot a team score of 323 and finished third at the 17-team Rich Korzec Memorial Invitational at the par-72 Blackstone National Golf Course
Western New England finished first with a score of 309, and Rhode Island College finished one stroke ahead of the Corsairs at 322.
For UMass Dartmouth, junior Brendan Kelleher (Hopedale, MA/Hopedale HS) and senior Kevin Rewinski (West Springfield, MA/West Springfield HS) each came in at 79 and tied for 13th, junior Brandon Oldham (Mattapoisett MA/Old Rochester Regional HS) shot an 82 and tied for 23rd, senior Matt Connolly (Lynnfield, MA/Lynnfield HS) shot an 83 and tied for 29th, and senior John Coucci (Mattapoisett, MA/Old Rochester Regional HS) shot a 91 and tied for 65th.
"It was a very difficult day to play, with the wind chill, I think it was about 31 degrees on the course," said UMass Dartmouth Head Coach Joel Baptista. "I give the guys a lot of credit. I think a top three finish in a field like this is a nice way for the seniors to go out, and a nice way for our returning players to build on something for the fall. I think that Matt, Kevin and John should be recognized for all of their efforts on behalf of the school. They are good golfers, but they are better people."
The meet was the final competition of the season for the Corsairs. "Overall, I thought we had a pretty successful season," said Baptista. We had a win at home, and a couple of top three finishes. We had some competitive matches, and we'll see what we have when we come back in the fall."
