BERNARDSTON, N.Y. – The University of Massachusetts Dartmouth men's golf team finished tied for fifth place after the first round of play of the ECAC Div. III New England Championship at Crumpin Fox Golf Club.
UMass Dartmouth shot a team score of 330, putting them directly behind Elms College with 328. Middlebury College sits in first place after shooting an impressive 318 on day one of competition. Nichols College stands in second place and trails Middlebury by six strokes.
Senior Peter Danko (Norton, Mass.) had the best round for the Corsairs. The Norton, Mass. native tallied a 77 on the day, edging out classmates Brandon Oldham (Mattapoisett, Mass.) and Brendan Kelleher (Hopedale, Mass.). Oldham shot a respectable 81, while Kelleher, who is coming off an impressive showing at the Southern Maine Fall Classic, recorded an 83 on the round.
The Corsairs look to make up ground as they tee off for the second round of play at 12:30 p.m. tomorrow.
