DARTMOUTH, Mass. – The University of Massachusetts Dartmouth men's golf team will launch fundraising efforts in support of local teenager Trey Miranda, joining the #Play4Trey campaign in coordination with the 2016 Westport Hampton Inn Invitational to be held at Allendale Country Club April 8-9.
Trey, a 17-year old native of Onset, Mass., was diagnosed with an inoperable brain tumor in November 2015. Since then, he has spent two months at Boston Children's Hospital, undergoing numerous surgeries, chemotherapy and radiation procedures and physical therapy. Though Trey is back at home in Onset, he faces a long road ahead.
The golf program has pledged $500 to kick-start fundraising efforts for #Play4Trey, the fundraising campaign to support Trey's fight, leading up to the annual Westport Hampton Inn Invitational. The team is encouraging local businesses and individuals to join in the support.
With over 100 collegiate golfers participating in the Invitational, businesses and individuals can donate a set amount per birdie registered on the course. Flat donations are also welcome, and one hundred percent of all donations will go directly to Trey to assist in his recovery.
