CRANSTON, R.I. – Led by junior Michael Byron's (Bourne, Mass.) and senior George Bent's (Barnstable, Mass.) cumulative scores of 168, the UMass Dartmouth golf squad closed out the Spring Series tying for 13th at the Johnson & Wales Spring Invite over the weekend, held at the Cranston Country Club.
The Corsairs collected a two-round group score of 680, shooting 340 as a group on both Saturday and Sunday. Williams College took the overall team title, posting a score of 630 for the tournament, while Rhode Island College's Jonathan Cooper took the individual title with his two-day mark of 140.
Byron and Bent both shot 84 on Saturday for the team's low scores, while Bent put up a round of 83 to lead the Corsairs on Sunday. Both tied for 49th in the individual scoring.
Sophomore Nick Lombardo (Medway, Mass.) posted the third-lowest score, shooting 84 and 85 rounds, respectively, to total 169 and place tied for 58th. UMass Dartmouth's contingency was wrapped up by freshman Ted Romanelli (Acushnet, Mass.), who totaled 175 for the tournament, and freshman Jackson Mitchell (Beverly, Mass.) with a score of 181.
UMass Dartmouth wraps up the 2015-16 year on Thursday, traveling to Springfield, Mass. for the Western New England Invitational at Veterans Golf Course.
