BREWSTER, MA-The University of Massachusetts Dartmouth's men's golf team finished 11th among the 23 NCAA Division III teams and 28th overall among 42 teams at the two-day New England Intercollegiate Golf Association Championships, which concluded Tuesday on the Port Course at The Captain's Golf Course.
The Corsairs shot a second round score of 329 for a 36-hole total of 673.
Bryant finished first overall with a score of 604, and Nichols, the highest-placing Division III team, tied Dartmouth for fourth place at 617.
Freshman Joe Connor (Lakeville, MA/Apponequet HS) led the Corsairs with a score of 80 for a two-day total of 163 and a tie for 87th place. Sophomore Scott Woodacre (Westborough, MA/Westborough HS) shot 82 for 168 and tied for 124th, freshman Nick Jagoe (Westport, MA/Westport HS) shot 84 for 169 and tied for 131st, junior Rob Leaver (Lakeville, MA/Apponequet HS) shot 83 for 173 and tied for 161st, and junior John Ripp (Bolton, CT/East Catholic HS) shot 87 for 181 and tied for 188th.
"We were 15 shots better, and our goal all year has been to play better on the second day of the tournament," said UMass Dartmouth Head Coach Joel Baptista. "We achieved our goal. It was a good experience. None of our players have played this course, and it's always tough when you play any course for the first time. It's good to see a young team improve on the second day of a tournament."
The Corsairs will return to action at the Great Northeast Athletic Conference Championships Friday and Saturday.
