SUTTON, MA-The University of Massachusetts Dartmouth's men's golf team shot a team score of 328 and finished in a tie for fourth in an 18-team field at the Worcester State Invitational Tuesday at the par-72 Blackstone National Golf Club.
The Corsairs and Trinity both finished two strokes behind Endicott. Salem State, placed first at 313 and Western New England was second at 318.
Individually, junior Nick Jagoe (Westport, MA/Westport HS) shot a 74 and finished second, five strokes behind the medalist. Freshman Billy Guilford (Halifax, MA/Silver Lake Regional HS) came in at 84 and tied for 35th, senior Scott Woodacre (Westborough, MA/Westborough HS) and freshman Brendan Kelleher (Hopedale, MA/Hopedale HS) each came in at 85 and tied for 42nd, while junior George Gillmore (Cotuit, MA/Barnstable HS/Fairfield) shot an 87 and tied for 53rd.
"It's not the note you want to end the spring season on, but it shows that we have some things to work on before we head to nationals," said UMass Dartmouth Head Coach Joel Baptista. "I was pleased with Nick's round today, he had a tough weekend and came back with a great round today. Overall, we had a very successful spring, and we got a lot of players some experience, which will help us for the fall. We're in a good spot heading to nationals. We know what we need to work on to prepare for the trip."
The Corsairs will return to action when they travel to Greensboro, NC for the NCAA Division III Championships May 10th-13th..
