PROVIDENCE, RI-The University of Massachusetts Dartmouth's men's golf team shot a team score of 326 and placed seventh overall in a 12-team field at the Rhode Island College Invitational, Friday afternoon at the Triggs Memorial Golf Course.
The Corsairs finished five strokes behind Nichols. The host Anchormen finished first at 308.
Senior Rob Leaver (Lakeville, MA/Apponequet HS) shot an 80 and led the Corsairs, tying for 16th place overall. Junior Scott Woodacre (Westborough, MA/Westborough HS) shot an 81 and tied for 20th, sophomore Nick Jagoe (Westport, MA/Westport HS) shot an 82 and tied for 25th, junior Matt Munden (Brockton, MA/Brockton HS) shot an 83 and tied for 32nd, and freshman John Coucci (Mattapoisett, MA/Old Rochester Regional HS) shot an 89 and tied for 51st.
"It was a good experience for our team," said UMass Dartmouth Head Coach Joel Baptista. "After last weekend's exceptional performance, they need to know that there will be rounds like this. We never seemed to get into a rhythm and get untracked. We have a young team, and the test will be how they bounce back from this on Sunday."
The Corsairs will return to action at the Nichols Invitational Sunday.
