NASHUA, NH-For the second consecutive week, freshman Joe Connor (Lakeville, MA/Apponequet HS) of the University of Massachusetts Dartmouth's men's golf team has been honored by the Great Northeast Athletic Conference.
Connor has been named GNAC Men's Golf Rookie of the Week.
At last weekend's NYU/Manhattanville Invitational, O'Connor shot rounds of 78 and 75 on the most difficult course the Corsairs have played this spring. They did not finish Saturday due to darkness, so they had to get up early Sunday, finish, and then play their second round. The second-day round of 75 was his best of the season, and the two-day total of 153 was also his best tournament performance.
"Joe played two fine rounds of golf on a difficult course under difficult conditions," said UMass Dartmouth Head Coach Joel Baptista. "He is showing that he has a lot of talent. At the end of four years, he will leave his mark on UMass Dartmouth and our golf program. It's great recognition for Joe, and it's great recognition for the university as well."
The Corsairs will return to action at the New England Intercollegiate Golf Association Championships at Brewster next Monday and Tuesday.
