NORTH DARTMOUTH, MA-For the second time this season, the University of Massachusetts Dartmouth's golf team will be at home when they host the Hampton Inn Classic this weekend. A field of 18 teams will be on hand as the tournament begins with shotgun starts at 1:30 p.m. Saturday and 7:30 a.m. Sunday.
"Our team will be looking for redemption, as they didn't play as well as they expected to play when we are at home last fall," said UMass Dartmouth Head Coach Joel Baptista. "Our number two man, (senior) Rob Leaver (Lakeville, MA/Apponequet Regional HS) will be out with an injury, so we will need someone to step up and fill in the fifth spot as everyone else moves up a spot. This is an outstanding field, with some of the best Division III schools in New England, as well as a great representative of Division II in Bentley."
Allendale Country Club is the Corsairs' home course, and they aim to take advantage of that fact. "The home course advantage should help us, and I'm optimistic that we'll finish towards the top of the pack," said Baptista. "Allendale is a great facility, the staff does a great job, and the Hampton Inn is a great corporate sponsor. It's probably one of the biggest collegiate golf tournaments that we have in the area. For us to be in contention, we'll have to play some of our best golf." UMASS DARTMOUTH GOLF
