NORMAN, OK- The University of Massachusetts Dartmouth's men's golf team has received a prestigious honor.
The Corsairs have been named an All-Academic Team for the 2008-2009 season by the Golf Coaches Association of America.
One of 20 NCAA Division III teams honored nationally, the Corsairs qualified for the honor as one of the teams that posted a grade point average of 3.0 or better. Nationally, 82 teams were recognized.
"This achievement helps define the term student-athlete," said UMass Dartmouth Head Coach Joel Baptista. "It shows that the members of our team not only take their sport seriously, but their academics as well. College athletics takes time management and prioritizing, and this shows that the team can handle both of these requirements. It's outstanding for our team, our department and our university."
The Corsairs will open their 2009-10 schedule at the Duke Nelson Invitational at Middlebury two weeks from Saturday.
