BOSTON, MA-A member of the University of Massachusetts Dartmouth's hockey team has been named to the New England NCAA Division II/III All-Star Team.
Senior forward Mike Owens (South Boston, MA/Winchendon School/Boston Jr. Bulldogs-AJHL) is one of nine forwards and 18 players named to the team, which was chosen by a vote of coaches and media in the New England area.
Owens, who previously was named Massachusetts Collegiate Athletic Conference Player of the Year and earned All-America honors, played in 27 games this season. He led UMass Dartmouth with 23 goals and 17 assists for 40 points. His career totals include 42 goals and 38 assists for 80 points in 101 games with the Corsairs.
Owens ranks fourth in Division III with 0.85 goals per game, and his 27 goals place him a single goal behind the national leaders. He also led the MASCAC in points and tied for the lead in goals, was a member of the Massachusetts Collegiate Athletic Conference Academic All-Conference Team, was the MASCAC Player of the year and was first team All-Conference. Owens led UMass Dartmouth's annual community service project, a 9/11 Remembrance Service, and made the Dean's List at UMD six times in his eight semesters.
"It is not surprising for Mike Owens to have been selected to the New England Hockey Writers All-Star team," said UMass Dartmouth Head Coach John Rolli. "This is just another well deserved award for Mike to go along with his MASCAC Player of the Year and All-American selections.""
