NEW BEDFORD, MA – Sophomore defenseman Steve Ginand (Milton, MA/Northern Cyclones-AtJHL) of the University of Massachusetts Dartmouth's hockey team has been honored by the Massachusetts Collegiate Athletic Conference.
Ginand has been named MASCAC Player of the Week.
Ginand was honored for his play in last weekend's Northfield Savings Bank Holiday Tournament. He scored a goal and earned an assist in Friday's 5-3 loss to eventual tournament champion Neumann. His power play goal early in the third period put the Corsairs on the board, and he assisted on a late goal by senior forward Dave McDonald (Wakefield, MA/Valley Jr. Warriors-EJHL) that cut the margin to a single goal in the final minute of the game.
"Steve Ginand had an outstanding weekend in one of the premier in-season Division III tournaments in the nation, hosted by Norwich University," said UMass Dartmouth Head Coach John Rolli. "Last year's MASCAC Rookie of the year was outstanding in being selected to the Northfield Savings Bank All-Tournament team, and being chosen MASCAC Player of the Week."
The Corsairs will return to action when they visit Worcester State Thursday evening.
