NORTH DARTMOUTH, MA –Two members of the University of Massachusetts Dartmouth's hockey team have earned post-season Massachusetts Collegiate Athletic Conference honors.
Hepler leads UMass Dartmouth defensemen in scoring, with two goals and 11 assists for 13 points in 24 games. This is the second consecutive season that he has earned MASCAC second team All-Conference honors, and he is tied for seventh among MASCAC defensemen in scoring. He and sophomore defenseman Steve Ginand (Milton, MA/Northern Cyclones) have formed the Corsairs' top defense pairing for the past two seasons, seeing regular action on the power play and killing penalties.
Williams has been the Corsairs' starting goaltender in each of his two seasons, and is 10-5-6 with a .920 save percentage, a 2.55 goals against average and one shutout this year while seeing 85 per cent of the action in goal.
"I'm thrilled for both Zach Hepler and Ryan Williams, who came in together as transfer students for their junior and senior seasons from Plattsburgh State after playing junior hockey in the Toronto area," said UMass Dartmouth Head Coach John Rolli. "Zach has been a stalwart on defense, and this is his second consecutive MASCAC all-star selection. Ryan has been the backbone of this team this season. We've only scored 76 goals through 25 games, and he's been principally responsible for our low goals-against total on a team that's been challenged to score goals."
The Corsairs will visit top-seeded Plymouth State Saturday evening in the MASCAC championship game. The winner will earn the league's automatic berth in the NCAA Division III Championships.
