FOXBORO, Mass. – After two scoreless periods Stonehill College fired off three goals to lift the Skyhawks over the University of Massachusetts Dartmouth men's ice hockey team in a non-conference contest on Tuesday evening at the Foxboro Sports Center,3-0.
Stonehill improves their overall record to 11-9-0, while the Corsairs dip to 4-12-2 on the season.
Sophomore Travis Army registered the game-winner and broke the scoring drought when he beat the visiting goaltender for his third score of the year with eight minutes, 37 seconds left in regulation.
Classmate Kevin Airoldi logged his second score of the season and added to the one score advantage with one minute, 48 seconds on the game clock. With six seconds left in the game, sophomore Thomas Jenkins set up classmate Dan Graham for an empty net score to close out the contest.
The Corsairs attempted 18 shots on goal in the second period, but were unable to beat Chris Tasiopoulos, who was recently named Northeast-10 Conference Goaltender of the Week.
Tasiopoulos stopped 34 shots en route to his ninth win between the pipes for the Skyhawks. UMass Dartmouth goaltender Ben Vandervies (Hannah, Alberta) made 24 saves in his return from a groin injury which sidelined him for the past five games.
The Corsairs return to Massachusetts Collegiate Athletic Conference play on Saturday when they travel to Fitchburg State for a 7 p.m. contest.
