NORTH DARTMOUTH, Mass. – University of Massachusetts Dartmouth junior Shaun Walters (Plymouth, Mich.) was named to the All-Massachusetts State Collegiate Athletic Conference (MASCAC) men's ice hockey second-team this afternoon after a vote by the conference's head coaches.
Westfield State University senior Vince Perreault (Braeside, Ontario) was elected as the MASCAC Player of the Year, while Plymouth State University freshman Ian McGilvrey (Omaha, Neb.) was selected as the Rookie of the Year. TJ Brown of Framingham State University was tabbed as the Coach of the Year.
Walters is making his debut on the All-MASCAC teams. In 24 games this past winter, the Plymouth, Mich. product ranked among the conference leaders in goals (2nd, 14), points (4th, 27), scoring (4th, 1.12 ppg), and assists (16th, 13). Walters fueled the Corsair power-play with 12 points, on four goals and eight assists, to rank second in the MASCAC circuit.
Walters cracked the scoring column in 14 games in 2014, including recording nine multi-point contests. He produced a season-high five points, including four helpers, to power UMass Dartmouth to a victory over Westfield State on Jan. 25, 2014. Walters netted a pair of markers three times during the campaign, most recently at Salem State on Feb. 15, 2014. He delivered the decisive goal as the Corsairs edged Plymouth State, 4-3, on Nov. 16, 2013. Walters was named the MASCAC Player of the Week once, while earning a spot on the Honor Roll twice.
UMass Dartmouth completed the campaign with an overall record of 5-18-2, including a 5-13 mark within the conference.
