BABSON PARK, Mass. – Three Babson College student-athletes recorded a pair of goals as the #6 Beavers overpowered the University of Massachusetts Dartmouth men's ice hockey team, 8-1, in a non-conference contest on Tuesday evening.
Junior Max Franklin converted during a power-play opportunity in the first and produced short-handed strike 40-seconds into the final period. Sophomore Dan Casey recorded a pair of power-play goals for Babson, while classmate Bill Seligman found the back of the net in the first and second. Senior Mike Driscoll and classmate Andrew Bonazza also added tallies in the scoring column for the Beavers. Babson held a significant advantage in shot attempts (50-23) and power-play opportunities (4-7, 0-5).
Sophomore Mike Kelly (Stoneham, Mass.) registered UMass Dartmouth's lone score of the contest, when he beat the Beaver net-minder in the second period off an assist from classmate Matt Baldino (Woburn, Mass.). Kelly logged his second goal of season and Baldino dished out his second assist on the play.
For Babson, junior Jamie Murray turned away 17 shots in 49 minutes of action to improve to a perfect 6-0 on the year. Off the bench, freshman George Blinick made five stops in the remaining 10-plus minutes.
UMass Dartmouth is back in action at 4 pm on Saturday, Nov. 29, when the Corsairs travel to Trinity (Conn.).
