BABSON PARK, MA-Host Babson scored late in the first period to take a 2-1 lead, and went on to defeat the University of Massachusetts Dartmouth's hockey team, 3-1, in a non-conference game at the Babson Skating Center Tuesday evening.
Junior forward Mike Owens (South Boston, MA/Boston Jr. Bulldogs) scored for the Corsairs, re-directing home a pass from senior defenseman Adam Horgan (Clayton, NC/Jersey Hitmen) with UMass Dartmouth on a power play at 11:25 of the first period. Pat Guerriero scored for the Beavers at 15:32 of the first period to give them the lead for good.
Ryan Smith made it 3-1 when he scored a power play goal for Babson at 17:28 of the second period. Cody Carlson had put Babson ahead at 4:59 of the first period. "Babson scored first, and then we tied it on a power play goal, on a beautiful slap pas from Adam Horgan to Mike Owens just off the side of the net," said UMass Dartmouth Head Coach John Rolli. "It was an up and down game. Babson is an ECAC East team that is very quick and very skilled. They seemed to win most of the races to loose pucks, and that was the difference in the game."
The Beavers outshot the Corsairs, 31-29. Senior goaltender Collin Tracy (Medford, MA/Medford HS) and BC goaltender Andrew Peabody each made 28 saves.
The Corsairs are now 3-1-1, while the Panthers are now 2-1-0. UMass Dartmouth will return to action when they host Salem State Saturday. UMASS DARTMOUTH HOCKEY
