AUBURN, MA--The University of Massachusetts Dartmouth's hockey team fell to host Worcester State, 5-3 in a Massachusetts State College Athletic Conference game at the Horgan Arena Thursday evening.
The Corsairs got on the board first, with junior forward Jason Stahl (Londonderry, NH/Valley Jr Warriors) scoring at 7:29 of the first period, assisted by freshman defenseman Ricky Miller (Colorado Springs, CO/Northern Cyclones (AtJHL). Andrew Brady tied the score for the Lancers two and a half minutes later. Sophomore forward Giancarlo Capodanno (Mountainside, NJ/N.J. Rockets) put the Corsairs ahead, 2-1, when he converted a pass from junior forward Joe Hill (Newburyport, MA/Valley Jr Warriors) at 12:20, but Chris Wallin tied the score for the Lancers at 14:18 and Mark Rintel put the Lancers ahead for good when he scored at 19:29 of the first period.
Pat Styckiewicz and Cody Warila scored second-period goals for WSC. Stahl scored his second goal of the game, assisted by Hill and junior forward Todd Bartelson (Pepperell, MA/Valley Jr Warriors), 26 seconds into the third period, but the Corsairs could come no closer.
"We scored first, then missed on a penalty shot," said UMass Dartmouth Head Coach John Rolli. "It was all downhill from there."
UMD outshot the Lancers, 34-23. Senior goaltender Jon Dryjowicz-Burek (Ludlow, MA/Springfield Jr. Falcons) made 18 saves for the Corsairs, while T.J. Cuneo stopped 31 shots for Worcester State.
UMD is now 3-3-1 and 0-3-1 in the MASCAC, while WSC is 3-4-0 and 1-2-0. The Corsairs will return to action when they visit Stonehill next Tuesday evening, December 8th.
